Has anyone done this successfully without using software, i.e. in a spreadsheet?

BigTank, given that Fm is a maximum over a range and needs to be found for each loading case, no, I don't believe it is practical to calculate it by hand, unless, perhaps, Figs UHX-13.3-1 & -2 are applicable.

Regards,

Mike

Update:

I was able to get Fm calculated correctly in Excel by passing information to another sheet, recording some macro's to find the max and min through the range of 0-Xa, and passing the results back into the first spreadsheet.
