Hi,
i'm a mechanical engineer in need
of some practical reference material
on designing tanks for storing water
or wastewater.

Tanks will be rectangular and fabricated

of stainless steel 304 grade.

Any useful sources anyone can recommend
will assist greatly...thanks!

You might try "Steel Plate Engineering Data" published by AISI. I think you can get it at
______________

STEEL PLATE ENGINEERING DATA SERIES - USEFUL INFORMATION - DESIGN OF PLATE STRUCTURES, VOLUMES I & II

Collects into one source document the many facets of plate design applicable to many types of structures, including steel tanks for liquid storage.
(Pub. 1992)

I downloaded a freely available pdf file

Design Manual for Structural Stainless Steel
European Stainless Steel Development and Information Group
EURO INOX

that may be useful to you.

Hi,
...thanks for the reference sources
from all the structural engineers
who replied, they were most useful.

...thanks again.

Your better off going with cylinrical tanks it's by far the most cost effective, because of how the bending stresses are eliminated. Similar to how a ballon works. Bolted cylindrical tanks are great because they can be shiped easily and constructed onsite quickly which adds to the cost effectiveness. Check with ASI @ 715-235-4225 and ask for Earl.
