Hi,

I am trying to find temperature dependent properties for AISI 4140 Steel. Mainly looking for its Yield Strength at 400 F temperature. Does anyone know of any resources I can use?

Thanks,
Mike

4140 steel that has been processed in what way? Normalized? Oil quenched and then tempered at 900 F? 400 F is not very high, so the yield strength will likely be within 10% of the room temperature value.

It is Austenized at 1650 F and then Tempered at 700 F and air cooled.
My guess was that it should be within 8 to 10% too, but isn't there any resource that cites such data. I mean a plot of temperature vs yield?

Agree with TVP. The closest applicable document I could find that is for free and contains mechanical property (UTS and YS) values (as percentage of room temperature strength) as a function of temperature is the MIL-HDBK-5H, 1 December, 1998 for low alloy steel grouping. At 400 deg F you are looking at approximately 90% of the room temperature YS value.

The data in MIL-HDBK-5H is good enough for me. How did you search for it? Online? or you have a collection of MIL specs?

Thanks!
Mike
