We are trying to mount hinges to a control surface and subsequently attach that to mating hinges on a wing in the context of an experimental
(homebuilt) aluminum airplane.
It is convenient to glue one half hinge to the control surface on a jig for positioning, With this fixturing it is then possible to
confirm fit with other parts of the wing, and then to drill and cleco, at which point the glue can be cleaned off.
In the past We have used "superglue" for this, with acetone to remove the glue. This kind of works but is quite fragile (aluminum to
aluminum, in flexible thicknesses).
One nice aspect of a glue that flows (any of the thinner cyanoacrylates) is that it can be droppered onto the joint without disturbing the jig fitup.
Sadly this often makes a joint that is not secure and is still very hard to clean up.
Is there a specific Cyano or a more suitable adhesive for this kind of operation?
Thanks very much.
