Hi
is it possible to calculate "tensile effective plastic strain" according to plastic strain components?
there is a formula for increment in tensile effective plastic strain as below

i have tried to calculate equvalent plastic strain and tensile equivalent plastic strain according to this formula (ignoring the increment signs), the results are as below

my question is how is it possible that the tensile effective plastic strain calculated by abaqus is larger than the total equivalent plastic strain?
the behavior of the graphs looks similar though.

Hi arminrx!

What kind of material are you using? PEEQ and PEEQT are usually given for materials which have different tension and compression behaviour. PEEQ is the compressive plastic strain and PEEQT is the tensile plastic strain.

Best regards,

that's right Phil,
i am using concrete damage plasticity. concrete damage plasticity has separated the equivalent plastic strain into two components, tensile and compressive.
i have done a single element test in tension and output the tensile equivalent plastic strain and the plastic strain components.
Using the plastic strain components i have calculated the "general equivalent plastic strain" and "tensile equivalent plastic strain" ( according to the given formula). The curves you see in the figure in the previous post are, in terms, general equivalent plastic strain (which i have calculated according to PE components), PEEQT output from abaqus and PEEQT that i have calculated.

abaqus outputs the compressive equivalent plastic strain to be used by subroutines during calculations, whereas it does not for PEEQT.

i wonder how abaqus is calculating PEEQT?

cheers,
Armin
