wondering if anyone has data showing the tensile strength curve of 2024-t4/t351 and 7075-t6/t651 from ambient thru to 500 F
need to make tie rods for an aluminum injection mold and require a material that has a similar coeefisient of thermal expansion as M1
thanks

Get a copy of MMPDS, or even an old copy of MIL-HDBK-5, either has the data you want.

For either alloy, the ultimate strength for samples exposed to 500F will be 50% or less of the room temp. value for 1/2 hour exposure, and something less than 20% for 10,000 hours exposure, when tested at RT. Strength at when tested at the exposure temperature will be significantly less.

You need to rethink the clamping of your mold. Something like a stack of Belleville washers on a decent steel alloy tie bar might make more sense.

thanks for the info, we have also discussed internally using belleville washers, it is an option we are investigating. Available real estate is somewhat limited.
The actual duty cycle temp is 335F. 500F would be an anomaly only if there was an equipment failure of the heat control system.
