We've been looking into getting a Universal Testing Machine, and found that a company called TestResources has them for half of the base price of an Instron. No one I know has ever worked with them, so I feel a bit uneasy about it. Has anyone here used one or heard about them? Especially compared to Instron, which is what we're used to. Thanks for any advice!

I am not familiar with them. They seem small but reputable. United is another good company. If you want to save money you have to go with smaller companies. If you think Instron is expensive now, wait until you need parts or service.

A few years ago we bought a rebuilt machine, one of the changes was that it now uses strain gage extensometers, and I love them.
