I would like to know more about Pro-e text symbols that are not readily available in fly out menus. I would especially like to know where the codes are defined. I use some of the codes for symbols like those in GDT control frames and have gotten by so far but I'd like to improve.
Right now I would like to use a GDT control field info between text but cannot remember how to control the GDT frame to stop before the following text.

Try this - in a note:

TEST@["pos"@]@["dia"0.010@] TEST - if "pos" is the position symbol, and "dia" is the diameter symbol from the Text Symbol menu... You will get a frame within text, as shown in the attachment.

@[ opens the frame
@] closes the frame

@]@[ Simply close and open frames to continue.

Hope that helps!

Really great, Thanks jmadd.
To be a bit more inquisitive, I'd like to ask if you know where all of the code is from?
Gary

Gary -

I'm not sure where the code came from - Pro-E is a program I've used for the last couple years, and haven't had the time to get deeper into it. If my company used GD&T all the time, I wouldn't use the functions I've listed above. However, we are mostly building parts in-house and don't use it unless we have to send something out and there is a case for using GD&T.

Sorry I haven't got a better answer!

Hit CTRL+A the cursor will become highlighted and all letters typed get a symbol.

M for (M)
S for (S)

Can't Show image here cause Picasa was acting like a silly child since their recent UI change.
Here is a pic of letter typed and Symbol Mode (CTRL+A) character result.

When done typing symbols hit CTRL+A again and deactivate it.

Michael -

That's really a neat trick! However, I found while that "ctrl-A" turned it on, it didn't shut it off.
Are there any settings that may cause that to happen?

Thanks!
John

I think you need (CTRL+B) to go back to regular text.

True it's (CTRL+B)
My apologies for typo thanks for the correction dgallup
I was probably thinking A and while typing (CTRL+B)

I'm so used to CTRL+A being wasted on Win Activate that I wished it were a toggle.

For Superscript/Subscript you can use

@+superscript@# = [sup]superscript[/sup]
@-subscript@# = [sub]subscript[/sub]

Wow, really great info! Thanks.
I'm still hoping that I can find code for a few more symbols that I would like to include inside of notes if possible. A ejector pin and some Parting line symbol.
I've been getting around this in wf3 by positioning symbols on top of notes which works, except when using the PDF function from wf4 on these files, our symbols are repositioned.

You can embed any symbol whose definition exists in your drawing with the notation &sym(symbol_name) into a text string. Note that you can not do this for dimension text. It is best if your symbol is defined with variable size & it seems to be best if there is some text in the symbol whose height is used to control the symbol size. That way you can easily match the symbol size to the rest of your text.

dgallop, this really helped me, thanks!

One more question on this. In the custom symbol set up, how does the Var Text option work of the custom symbol attributes?
Is this a raster image of text that is not actually text for the end use?
Would it possible to have text that is modifiable for use like a balloon notes?
Gary

You can have variable text in the symbol. It can be a parameter or you can input it directly. If you embed a symbol with variable text in a text string, Pro/E will prompt you for the value. You can also modify the value later on.

What does the stop sign in pro/e mean? I have been told to put one next to the section on a gauge which needs to be calibrated? Was not given an explanation as to why though.
