Looks like they're going to chip away at the structure until it's just a heap of rubble.

Ok ok, but seriously. Could they not hit the base with a larger ball, using a shorter crane, from the sides, and be a lot more effective?

It looks like the operator has no experience and is guessing on where and how to hit the thing.

Or is it me who is inaccurately understanding how wrecking balls are used based on my vast experience from TV/film?

My guess is me, but if so I'm genuinely curious why that (thought on first line above) wouldn't work.

Anybody get the collapse?

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

It’s not just a good idea. It’s the law!

I was watching it live on the feed provided by thebard3 earlier today. If you click on the link, you can still watch the collapse by just going back a ways. It appears to be about a 12 hour loop, so as long as they leave it up, you've still got time to see it go down 'live', at least for the next several hours.

Thx JohnR, collapse at about -2:21. Kind of anticlimactic, really :)

Yeah, I couldn't figure out where the ball was actually striking the structure, almost looked like it was inside. Or maybe just the offside. Didn't foul the cable at any rate.

Well that looks like a prime example of the straw that broke the camels back. No wonder they didn't want to go in there to place more explosives.
