thread330-136663
Hello!
I need exact/ equallant substitute of material 42crmo4v to make wheels for product reclaimer. But i didn't found any suitable substitute.
4140 have same chemical properties but differ in mechanical properties. 1.7225 also cover 42crmo4 but not 42crmo4v.
Please help

1.7225 just (like 4140) defines only chemical composition.
V defines mechanical properties in QT condition (V in German = QT in English).

Mechanical properties are defined in material or product standard.
You should know original standard to find substitute.

For example:
If your material is from old German drawing so original standard could be DIN 17200 Vergütunsstähle (= Steels for quenching and tempering).
DIN 17200 goes throught EN 10083 to EN ISO 683-2.
Mechanical properties remain the same. So you could go (in this example) for EN ISO 683-2 42CrMo4+QT.

This question appeared in this forum almost 20 years ago Link. The V does indicate hardened rather than vanadium like I thought; this seems to be equivalent to the H prefix for UNS alloys as the designation does not define mechanical properties itself.
