Toggle Section

Suppose you have created "Section View" by View->Operation->section.

Now to go back to normal view, I can

1)use View->Operation->Section Toggle

2)click "Toggle Section" button in Ctrl+H dialog followed by "Cancel" button (or followed by "Esc" key)

Why "Toggle Off" is mapped to "Cancel" Action Button, while

"Toggle on" is mapped to "OK" Action Button?

Usual practice for all the dialogs is OK will "confirm" the
action and Cancel will "reject" the action right? Here, in this case, clicking the "Toggle Section" button is the action which should be followed by "OK" button and not "Cancel" button, is what I feel.

Perhaps if you think of 'OK' and 'Cancel' as really being 'Yes' and 'No' that this would help. There are really TWO icons in play here, one which has the Dialog and therefore the need for the 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons, is the dialog for setting-up and defining the 'appearance' of the sectioned display. For this dialog think of 'OK' as saying 'Yes' to both accepting AND toggling 'ON' the section display, while 'Cancel' says 'No', I do NOT wish to see the section displayed.

As for the behavior of the icon labeled 'Section Toggle', it's just that, a TOGGLE. By definition, selecting a 'Toggle' does not normally trigger the display a dialog, but rather it just turns something 'ON' when pressed IN, in this case the section view as defined using the 'Section' dialog, and it turns something 'OFF' when you 'pop' it back OUT, again, canceling the display of the section.

Note that starting with NX 5.0 you will new see two separate yet similar icons, one to bring up the Section dialog, where you will still find the 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons, which behave as they do now, and the 'Section Toggle' icon, which still only turns the display of the section ON and OFF.

I have to say that you're the first person to every bring this issue up and I'm still not sure what it is that you were expecting to happen when you used these icons.

Well, let me give an example of another dialog.
I create two concentric circles and extrude them to create a tube. Now double click the extrude (for editing, i.e. redifining section string), I will "deselect one circle" and give "OK" (not "Cancel" button) to confirm the "Deselection Action".

Similarly, "Deselecting the Toggle Button" and giving "OK" should result in Section view off.

Current behaviour of 'toggle section off' is:
"Deselect the Toggle button" and hit "Cancel" button, which is not as per "Users' Intution".

In general whether you select or deselect some buttons in a dialog, the action is always confirmed by "OK" and rejected by "Cancel" button. Here "Deselcting the toggle button" is an "Action" that should be confirmed by "OK" button and not "Cancel" button.

You seem to be saying that you're using BOTH 'section' icons at the same time in some sort of 'sequence' every time you wish to turn ON or OFF the section display, correct? But that is NOT really how they were designed to be used.

The 'Section...' Icon (which BTW in NX 6.0 is now named 'New Section' since you can now created and save several named sections in one part file which can be recalled anytime you wish) was designed to behave like any other dialog, in that you open it, set-up some options and when you like what you see then you hit OK to accept, or if you prefer, to 'create' the section that you've just defined (and starting in NX 6.0 the concept of 'creating' a section takes on new meaning). The fact that opening the 'Section...' dialog also 'toggles' ON the 'Section Toggle' icon is because that is the ONLY way that you can see the display of the section. If you hit OK, it closes the ONLY dialog available and it leaves the 'Section Toggle' toggled ON. If you hit Cancel, it closes the dialog and cancels the section display which means that the 'Section Toggle' icon has to be toggled OFF. However, once a section is defined, the 'Section Toggle' (which in NX 6.0 is now named 'Clip Work Section' since it now turns ON what is considered the 'Work Section', a new concept since now you can have more than one section, but only one will be considered as the 'work' section) is the ONLY thing that you need to use to turn the existing 'section' ON or OFF.

I'm sorry if you feel that this is somehow clumsy, but once you see how this works in NX 6.0, if you can think of a better way to arrange these icons and the behavior of the dialogs and their navigate buttons (what we call the buttons at the bottom of a dialog, like OK, Apply and Cancel), please feel free to reopen/continue this thread.

I am not telling that "Toggle Section Button" behaviour is wrong, but "OK" and "Cancel" are mapped incorrectly.

I want to invite members in this forum to give their views on the current behaviour of "Toggle Section Off".

N.B. I want know whether I am the only exception in understanding behaviour of the dialog.
