Torx Screws/Bolts 2

I'm looking for a Torx hd. flange M8 x 1.25 60 mm lg.
Has anybody herd of such a animal? Does anybody know if such a thing exists?
I've searched the net to no avail.

Is it an internal or external drive feature?

I have herd of such an animal (pun intended by me). Since you are in the automotive industry (and presumably need sizable volumes), you should contact Textron Fastening Systems directly. They are the patent holder to Torx systems.

To my knowledge the Torx patent has long since expired (which might help explain the existence of the new "Torx Plus"), but "Torx" remains a trademarked brand name. Using the name requires paying a fee to the trademark owner.

Performing your same internet search using the more generic "Hexalobular" (favored by Europeans) or "Six lobe" or "6 lobe" (favored in the US) in lieu of "Torx" tradename will substantially increase your number of hits and available sources. (Think searching "refrigerator" vs. searching "Frigidare".) You will wish, of course, to deal with a reputable, quality fastener manufacturer (of which Textron is certainly one, and by all means buy the Frigidare if that's what you really want/need).

The original Torx patent has expired (hence the hexalobular nomenclature). Torx Plus was created to improve on the original Torx system, and to extend the patent royalties. Either way, I would recommend using Torx/Torx Plus from Textron - they maintain the dimensional checking standards and equipment thereby easing the user's work in quality control.

The Torx Plus system gives about 25% stronger drive bits which is great when trying to break loose a rusted brake caliper bolt. When you are using an automatic power driver that extra 25% can give a lot longer time between bit changes (if you ever have to change the drive bits).
I don't think you will find a flange bolt with either drive system on the shelf; that is not a common head style for this type of drive.

I do not know of any 6-lobe (the politically correct term !) flange bolts. There are on the market a certain number of truncated (conical or frustum) head bolts, particularly in titanium, which provide a greater bearing area. These are used in aerospace where weight is all-important. However, these are all OEM drawing parts and not standards, so very little chance of finding them at a distributor.

Their are 5 different companies that have the Torx-plus patent since April. I buy from them all depending on delivery. Camcar is running 10-12 weeks due to the closing of their Rockford plant. Camcar can make just about anything for a price. Contact me if you have a print.
