Hey guys,

I have been having issues energizing a 1500KVA transformer. We currently have a 200A service. I currently have a 75KVA transformer with 480V to feed into the transformer to energize it. I also have tried using a VFD and soft starter but am either not getting the right configuration or it is not going to ever work with it. With the soft starter the transformer comes on for a bit and breaker trips instantly.

Please let me know if you have faced this and what solution worked for you. Unfortunately we don't have high voltage service line

1500 kVA at 480 Volts is 1800 Amps.
That does not include an inrush that may be more than 10 times full load curent.
You may be asking too much from your 200 Amp service.

Not just a good idea;
It's the LAW!

I thought as much but it will be extremely difficult to energize it without a soft start. Do you have any luck using a soft starter?
