Hi,

I am trying to perform a transient analysis of a crankshaft, conrod and piston in order to understand the effects of the reciprocating mass in the conrod performance (with lightening purposes). The project is set up with a 200 steps of 0.0002 sec and a configuration of 0.00005 sub steps with a joint rotation of 9000 rpm at the crank.

As you can see, the results are far from conclusive. I have tried mesh improvement and lowering the substeps time without any improvement in the results.

Do you have any advice.

Best regards.

Make RBD analisys and export forces/velocities/accelerations to FEA linear or nonlinear analisys. Calculate only some critical points - with max loads or at fixed angles.
At this point you try to kill fly with nuke)

Thanks for your help karachun, that's a practical approach.

I reduced the impact of the oscillations reducing the acceleration ramp, checking the natural frequencies in a modal analysis and improving the joints.

What are your conclusions of the stress results in the picture?
