traveling crane and monorail 3

good day every body,

this might be a stupid question: how to decide to use traveling crane or monorail for lifting? it seems traveling crane is much better than monorail as long as space is enough to put rails.

I know mobile lifting equipment is always more economic than permanent one; however, this compressor is located inside building without large entrance.

If you have a single path where items need to be lifted and moved then a monorail will do the work much more economically. If there are multiple lifts which can't be set up on a single line of travel then you go to a bridge crane.

The simplest may be padeyes in the overhead and use chain falls and rig the equipment in and out of place.

The bridge crane adds maintenance requirements which may be excessive for infrequent lifts.

You can mount the compressor with a tripod and chain pulley block on a moving trolley. This trolley can then be dragged out. Alternately if a mobile crane with telescopic boom can be used,it makes life simpler. All these suggestions are made to avoid capital investments and occupying precious floor space .

If the load is say under 5,000 lbs - temporary shoring or scaffolding with a monorail may do the trick..

Depending on the loads, having your rails / supports in place and then using a chain hoist or similar that you bring in for the semi annual lift can be effective. Be sure to have a qualified / licensed person review your loads and setup. They may be able to put a lifting plan together for you as well.

Some plants install "I" beams above their large pumps and motors. They have an "I" beam trolley and a chain fall. If equipment is to be removed, the trolley is installed on the "I" beam and the chain fall used to lift the equipment. The "I" beam only need extend far enough to place the equipment on a a pallet jack or heavy duty cart. Even rollers may be used once the equipment is off the bed plate and on a flat floor.
