Hello Everyone

I am currently working on a project whereby I am building a circuit to drive 2 CFL's using a small DC battery.

However, part of the circuit requires a 176.1mH triad transformer and I am not sure what a triad transformer is and how it differs from an ordinary transformer.
I tried to google this, but it only showed companies manufacturing transformers.

Can someone please explain what a triad transformer is and how it differs from an ordinary transformer?

Thanks

I haven't come across the term 'triad' in this context before. At a guess, I suggest it is one with two secondary windings, or a secondary and tertiary.

The obvious question is why a 'triad transformer' would be specified as an inductor unless its reactance is a key part of circuit operation, and why there is no information about its turns ratio. Do you have a circuit diagram that might help people see what the purpose of this component is?

There is a manufacturer (named Triad) that can deliver any kind of transformer/choke you can ever dream of. And quite a few that I never dreamt of.

Sometimes, a manufacturer's name is used instead of the correct/generic name. I think that happened in this case.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

It may be to do something about the core construction if it is a three phase unit.During last 100 years, at various stages, transformer engineers tried a triangular alignment of 3 phase cores to reduce no-load losses and to get exceptionally low exciting current ( eg Brown Boverie in 1940's) Last attempt was from Sweden -Hexaformer.com -ABB calls their transformers with such core construction as TriDry Transformers

Hello Everyone

Firstly, my apologies for the very late reply. I was trying to remember the title and also find the video I was referring to in my original post. I finally managed to track it down and this is the URL:

In it the guy was talking about a high inductance triad transformer 1:1 showing on the circuit diagram it has a rating of 176.1 mH.

This is still leaving me a little in the dark as I am not sure what a triad transformer is? And I would also like to know if I can use an inductor with a rating close to 176.1 mH or will that not work?

A transformer manufactured by the Triad Transformer Company.

What waross (and others) have said. Triad is the manufacturer. Go thru their catalog and find the 1:1 high inductance transformer you need.

Best to you,

Goober Dave

Hi

I just want to say a huge Thank You to everyone for all their help. I did what was suggested and found the transformer made by triad online.
I will be placing my order and hopefully have my project off the ground very soon!!

Thank You
