Hi,
What would be the effect of thermal barrier coating on the combustion chamber ( piston face and head ) on a 2 stroke ?

Some say it will cause detonation, i dont see why ?
Higher end of compression temp maybe but this would mean more pressure and also faster burn rate so that you could reduce advance and get same amounts of torque right ?

Nothing fundamentally different about the combustion process itself, between 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. Sure, the mixture prep and charge motion are different, and the expansion ratio is different, but the combustion itself is the same process.
So, why 2-stroke specifically and not SI combustion in general?

maybe because the coating will get hotter than the surface without it and be a source of preignition?
