This paragraph covers other situations, but, I'm limiting my question to PWHT or Stress Relieving.
UCS 85 requires that, with a few exceptions, impact tests for material, weld procedures, and, production tests, must be made in the PWHT'd condition, such that the test coupon receives at least 80% of the time at temperature, that the vessel being represented by those coupons will receive.
UCS 85 doesn't specifically state 'impact tests', but, rather seems to indicate that other mechanical tests may be included,in this requirement for testing in the PWHT'd condition. We know it's applicable for impact tests because the relevant paragraphs in UG 84 reference UCS 85, but, I haven't noticed a requirement for tensiles referenced in any other paragraphs. So here's my question, is the requirement for SPWHT ever applicable to tensile tests? If so, where is that requirement found?
Thanks,

weldtek, see the second sentence of para UG-85 (c), "The kind and number of tests and test results shall be as required by the material specification." This, to me, has always meant tensiles and any other physicals required by the material spec.

Mike

Paragraph UG-85 (c) requires testing of specimens for simulated thermal treatment to duplicate the material specification test requirements. This was required to assure no change in material properties as a result of thermal treatment during fabrication. I concur with SnTMan.
