I am using UGNX version 2.0.2.2.. When I load a large assembly overall memory usage shows 1.40 - 1.42 GB. I start rotating, select a few components, blank a few, zoom in and zoom out etc. etc. memory usage starts shooting up. It reaches about 2.21 GB or more and UGNX application crashes and I see memory usage going down. Finally I get an 'Internal memory' error.

Workstation Model: IBM, IntelliStation M Pro
Graphics card details are as follows:
Graphics Adapter Type: NVIDIA Quadro4 980 XGL
Graphics Card Driver: 7.7.5.6
Graphics Card Memory 128MB

Any one encountered a similar problem? Any suuggestions??

Thanks in advance.

It is an OS problem. Windows cannot address more than 2GB of memory per application, unless you have XP64bit, which I doubt since you are on a M-pro.

XP will recognize 3gig if you set the memory switch. You can learn how here:

With that being said....even with that switch I've had issues when in the neighborhood of 2gig of memory usage. Give it a try though...it may solve your problem. Only solution beyond that is going to 64 bit. You could use a better graphics card too if files of that size are a frequent occurence.

Take care...

The graphics card is fine. We have 50+ in Z-Pro's.

The /3GB boot.ini switch may work, but you have to be running XPpro. On Pro/E, it didn't help until I put 3GB of ram in my machine.

I thought you had to be on XPPro to run UG. And yeah...that card is fine if you're dealing with single components or small assemblies but with a Spec benchmark of 20.2 in UG it's comparable to an FX540 which I know from experience is slow when working with large files or assemblies...if working with files that large is common an upgrade would speed things up considerably.

Take care...

Thanks to all who replied to my question.
We have 3GB switch already enabled on MPRO machine and it is not helping.
I tested the same assembly on a ZPRO machine which has exactly the same graphics card and the driver version but 3.2 GB of RAM and a dual processor and I do not see this memory problem on ZPRO. Memory usage stays very stable on ZPRO, it does not go beyond 1.55 GB.

If MPRO machine with 3GB switch enabled still has this problem and ZPRO with 3.2 RAM does not, does it mean that 2GB RAM on MPRO is inadequate for UGNX to handle large assemblies?

Thanks to all !

yes...the 3gb switch doesn't do you much good unless you've got at least 3gb of memory.

Take care...
