Hi,
When download the reference drawing from smart team, save management the drawing only and tried to change the reference model by edit link, pointed document & replace, it refuses to change and shows error.
I tried this method, when the drawing set up, dimensions to be given in the new drawing is same, but, the model is different. It will help me to save the repeated dimensioning and view taken time.
Kindly suggest any solution.
Suresh

there are plenty threads over the Internet. i sometimes open a drawing and a part file then using save manager i give to both of files desired names and the last thing is to go to a drawing links and replace them.

Hi suresh,
you cannot replace a drawing link with any part. there is something called as UUID ( unique identifier ) for every file which is considered for linking. you will have to re generate the drawing from the required part.

Sudhakar.

first of all it is possible if you do it in a right way..i'm doing that most of the time.
there are also some not free softwares over the Internet that can do that.

hi tikito,

could you please give us the procedure for doing the same.

i'll do a lil video for you tomorrow. can't connect to my work network

Hy sudhakarn.

The procedure its like this:

1. first you have to have the drawing and the part/ product that you want to link to in the same folder.
2. Open the drawing
3. go to Edit/Links/Pointed Documents/ Replace. From there copy the old name of the part that the drawing was linked to. Close the Drawing
4. Open the part/Product. Make Save as and paste the name that you copied before. Close the part/product
5. Open the Drawing. Go to File / Desk select the old name of the part/product , make right click / open. Then close desk window. If you go now to the drawing , go to links, the link is now ok.
6. In drawing select all the brocken views, right click on one of them/ select objects/ modify links/ ok. Remove the brocken link. Confirm with ok. Then update.
7. Enjoy the new linked file.

Have a nice day:)

Thank you so much Alexsoare. i never thought it was possible as it was mentioned in the documentation as UUID issue. Thank you so much for sharing this.

cant post a video as i posted above. here's my way of replacing links.
1. open old part and drawing.
2. go to save management and save as both files
3. open drawing and go to links.
4. git replace model.
5. update drawing.
done.

i'm also doing that for assemblies where all parts are connected to each other.
to create a new mold and new drawing takes like 5 minutes.

checked some websites for s specific software. well it's not so cheap. 500 euro minimum for a seat.
