UNDETERMINED ERROR 1

I've just lost everything I have done today (and not for the first time). I opened several parts and assemblies (one main top assy amoung them). I edited 3 or 4 of these parts and saved them (I actually closed them and saved them) Every thing showed up fine in my top assy. Then BOOM! UNDETERMINED ERROR! It goes out of SW and pretends that I didn't do anything today!
When I went back into my top assy, guess what all my changes were gone (INCLUDING THE ONES I SAVED IN EACH SUB ASSY SEPERATELY)!!!! I've tried bringing up backups, no help. What kind of program have I been roped into using here, I mean this is elemental recovery protocall. I haven't had this much trouble with a software package since I used a Telesis Machine (and that was a nightmare!) Any suggestions out there?

Sounds like somehow you opened the files as read only and saved them over the existing ones as read only, making them unusable. I have done this by mistake...once. Maybe Tick, SBaugh or MadMango will have a solution.

It is always easy to blame the application software for everything. If you stop to think about this, if you are sure you saved and closed some files (from any application) then crashed and find the files were not saved - would this not indicate something relating to your operating system (possibly in its interaction with the application also)? It could be a number of problems, including graphics cards/drivers, believe it or not. You should try to stay calm, look through past posts (filtering for the contructive responses) and contact your VAR to make use of the annual support fees you are paying (you are on support, yes? - I'm sure you are). Make them work for it -they should be only too pleased to help you. Meanwhile take some comfort in the fact that many of us do not experience this problem and have many years of heavy use of this product so it is not the basic software on it's own which is causing it. I am not sying that we have never had any issues at all, but I would note that I have experience similar issues at times even with other products like MSWord, etc. One further note. In any application field, even where bugs are software related, all the competing products have their share - none are perfect.

BTW: I have to be honest and say that anyone who does not pay annual support for ANY major application software deserves no sympathy. The iitial purchase price of software is insignificant in terms of the total cost of ownership. We should all be aware of this. If we can't afford total ownership, we can't afford the software, period! Please excuse my little outburst - not directed at you - I'll get off my soapbox.....

Further Info:
When I went into my top assy again to make the changes all over again I noticed that when I went into my first sub assy and the related part the the changes were there in the part drawing (before in checking after the crash I just went to the sub assy level and not the part level)and when I redisplayed the part assy they appeared there and then when I redisplayed my top assy that change appeared there again. I simply had to go into each sub assy in like manner and then go back to the top assy and Viola! There it was. Look's like I lost links to the new changes from the top assy and not all the changes. Still it was scary there for a while.

I may need some advice on amount of memory and what kind/size of of video card to get> presently I am working with files that are large compared to what I am used to. My top assy is over 60mb and the subs are between 5-10mb each. I have 1gb of memory in my computer and (I know this is bad) a 64mb gforce4 video card --- Help?

If your assembly crashes before saving, and the part files are saved to a different location, the assembly will still remember the old location.

Also, check your SW backup settings. See where your backup files are sent and look there.

You should look through the posts here by clicking on a the search tab. This issue has been talked out. I recommend the new Quadro cards. thread559-65444 there is link there for the video card I useand at a good price - At least at the time I posted this.

Throw that card away and get a Quadro 500 FX at a minimum. From the sounds of your assemblies you should be using 2 Gigs of memory.

One thing to try when you see a problem like this again is to first do a Ctrl-Q. If that doesn't work, close the file, close SW, and restart the computer, then try again.

Call your VAR in time like this - that's what they are there for.

Open your assembly with "lightweight" unchecked or resolve all the components after opening. That will fix your problem.
