Urgent - Restarting Analysis due to Unexpected Computer Shutdown

Hi friends,

I am running a Abaqus Standard simulation for about 1.5 days. When I checked it now, the computer experienced a unexpected shutdown due to power failure. I opened the CAE file and recovered the data. It still shows that the simulation is running but it is actually not running.

How can I restart the analysis from the point where it stopped. I am wary to click the restart under Edit Job because I am not sure if that will cause the analysis to restart from time 0.

Urgently need advice on this. Thank you.

Check the task manager to see if it is still running or not. If it has stopped then check the .sta (for standard analysis) file to see where it got to and restart it from there.

Hi,

Task manager showed that it has stopped. I checked .sta and saw that it stopped at a particular timing.

I am using CAE interface. Can I know how to restart from this timing?

Hi,

Did you request a restart file before submitting your analysis by using Output -> Restart Requests in Step module? If yes then you can copy your model and right click your model name to select edit model attributes. On restart tab, provide the name of the job you want to restart and the increment number to restart from.

Details about restarting an analysis are given in Abaqus Analysis User's Manual, Section 9.1 and in 9.1.1 it states that "If you want to be able to restart an analysis, you must request that the files required for restart be written when the analysis is first run. If you do not request that restart data be written, restart files will not be created in Abaqus/Standard."
