Use of Intumescent (Fire Resistant) Paint on Pressure Vessels

Is the use of intumescent (fire resistant) paint an acceptable method of reducing the heat input into a vessel or tank from an external pool fire?
If so, how is the heat input calculated?
I know this type of paint has been used on steel structures, but we are being asked to use it on pressure vessels to reduce the heat input. I have doubts if this is acceptable, but would like to hear opinions from others.

I've never seen credit given for intumescent paint on a pressure vessel. What's the dry film thickness and insulation value? Will it survive the extreme thermal stress seen during a pool fire and then fire water hits it? Sounds like a stretch to me, but then I haven't seen everything, yet.

Who is asking you to use this ? and based on what requirements ?
It depends if they are looking at all the factors in your equation, as Latexman noted.

Ive never seen a pressure vessel painted for fire protection, more often than not these are protected with flexible fire protection
