Folks,

I have an application where I want to seal a vacuum between to pipes. One pipe is stationary. The other fits on (or within) the first. It rotates tru 360deg and also moves about 15mm or so in the length direction over the other.

The vacuum is only about 800mBar, so a reasonable seal will suffice. It is also important to minimise the friction in the rotary direction.

i was thinking along the lines of a bellows type seal with a rotary vacuum seal attached. OD of the pipes is about 40mm.
Where could I could source this?

Any other ideas welcome also.

Cheers,
speedy

Have you considered cupseals, generally used in pneumatic pistons?

This product is way over the top for your needs, I only point it out to you as someday you might have a need. I only use their products, I do not sell them.

Your having such a low vacuum. It seems to me you could use a simple "O"ring with a little vacuum grease lubricant.

Good Luck

I agree with pennpoint ... providing the finish of the mating surfaces are suitable & the frequency of movement is low ... O-rings will probably suffice.
One of the companies I work for manufactures vacuum monochromators/spectrometers which use Viton O-rings (static, linear & rotary) & achieve vacuum of 1 x 10-6 Torr.
