SW 2004 sp0.
Spontaneously began throwing an "installing windows soemthing or other" message when starting SW. Asks for a VB CD, which I never had. Hit a vew "cancel"s, and it volunteers it is looking for vba6.msi, which does not appear on any of the 3 SW CDs.
I've done a repair type re-install via CD, with anti-virus off. Same problem. pretty much.

Then I ran Norton system works, which found dozens of bad registry entries that mentioned SW by names.

Re-repair, and it still tries to install off a vb cd.

Anybody know a way around this?

Thanks,

Dan T

Found conflicting references on theInternet re: VB and Win ME, and files to run to re-load VBasic name insmsi, insmsia. On the Microsoft site I found the file they recommended, download that, and ran it. It claimed everything was loaded already.

Tried to restore the system to a point a month ago as offered by ME. After MANY minutes it said nothing had changed since then. Snort.

Boldy went looking for SETUP.exe in amongst CAB files on the hard drive. Found it, ran it, and Re-loaded Windows ME off the Hard-drive. ME was the system preloaded on this 2-3 year old Compaq machine.

I got plenty nervous when it did not offer a "repair" type installation. I felt a little better when it filled in the blanks for the CD code (no OEM CD with modern machines, it seems).

When it woke up SW4 was working just fine.
No casualties to other softwares noted, ..yet.........

Glad to hear you are up and running. We had to do the same thing with SW03 on a Win2K machine last year.
