I was wondering if anyone knows the hand calculations necessary to verify the results of the SR Wall Computer Program for Segmental Retainig walls. I have tried to compare the computer results with the results in the second edition of the Segmental Retaining Walls Design Manual and can not get the Internal Sliding and the Internal Resisting Moment calculations to match between the two. I am looking for the hand calculations necessary to verify the computer data on these two areas.

That is certainly something to be concerned about.

Look at the software's documentation - see if the method of analysis is clearly indicated. Then contact the software company and ask for an explanation (unless the documentation makes the reasons for the differences obvious.) Provide them with your design problem, your hand calcs and the program's output.

Let us know what you find -

Please see FAQ731-376 for great suggestions on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora. See faq158-922 for recommendations regarding the question, "How Do You Evaluate Fill Settlement Beneath Structures?"

I went through a similar exercise with an SRW manufacturer's software, and I was able to match my results with the program's output.

Did you see the worked examples in the NCMA design manual? If not, you may find some answers there.
