A couple of days ago Ahmad Jamal, now 84, has been in my place for a live concert with his quartet (bass, drums and percussions).
Notwithstanding his age, he still plays with exceptional energy and zest, his peculiar style where he is an absolute master of time and dynamics (piano, pianissimo, fortissimo...).
Very good arrangements, rythm section and percussionist.
I particularly liked his rendition of the standard 'poinciana', which he has been playing, revising, arranging for decades, sort of like trane was continualli revising the old standard 'My favourite things'.
