Hello,

In one of my old generating stations, I found 3 GE relays mounting on porcelin standoffs. They look like some sort of overcurrent relay for the 44 kV system.

Nameplate has General Electric, Time Limit Relay, Type P, Form C-31. See picture here:
Anyone ever see one of these before? Due age of plant, I would guess this is from the 1930's.

I am working on a project to restore an old hydroelectric plant from 1939 (One of Henry Ford and Albert Kahns 1st projects together) and the origional relays are still there, they look similar to your and are from the mid 1930's so I think your guess is pretty close.

Here is a link to the project for you history buffs.

I disassembled on and have determined that it is an overcurrent relay with a time delay.

It is a in-line overcurrent relay. It is similiar to a solenoid in that the leads go into a coil. There a metal rod that can be adjusted with time markings on it. The rod goes to disk on top that sits up against a housing. This housing has an air orifice to provide some delay, I assume.

Thanks for the link.
