Hi all
I have a new warehouse to design. Its about 40m x 40m and is going to have either tilt up walls or block walls. Its going to have steel rafters and purlins also.
Its essentially a common plain 4-sided warehouse!!
There is an existing nearby building and it is about 2 to 3m away.
The preliminary architectural drawings for my building require the one external wall to to be fire rated - and this happens to be the wall closest to the other building.
I have designed fire rated walls before..but these have been internal walls where one side is protected form the other.
In this case...I can not see how (either external precast or block wall) could remain stable (to protect the other building).
After all..if my steel roof "melts"..it will pull over this firewall no matter what the wall material is.
Of course the firewall could be freestanding and independent...but i get the impression this is not the way i should do it.
Any thoughts?
