Water Tank Reinforcemnt Details(Walls)

Dear All,

My question that some times in water tank the horizontal bars are coming at the inner side of the wall section, instead of the outer face.
I believe this depends on the deflected shape and if the tank is deep or shallow.

Thus, can any one explain the location of horizontal and vertical bars based on the deflected shape of water tank(considering all scenarios).

I think they are usually put on the inside. This is to keep them from getting all wet by being out in the weather.

For a circular tank, the horizontal reinforcement is primarily loaded in hoop tension, and it won't make a whole lot of difference from a design standpoint where the bars are located. Location should still be shown on design drawings and followed in practice, though.
For vertical bars in a circular tank, and for all reinforcing in a rectangular tank, bar placement will be dictated by calculated forces and moments in the wall section, and could vary as designated by the design engineer.
In addition to strength requirements, there are also minimum steel ratios and bar spacings used to try to minimize leakage.
