I recently designed a lifting device for a 97 ton-US lift. The lifting device design required that it be used routinely to convert a processing facility from one configuration to another by removing equipment in a single lift. I choose to use web belts and wire ropes in a single point pick that attached to the load at three equally spaced locations. The single attachment was done using a pin / clevis and the three attachments were made by looping the web belt around structural beams (8" rectangular tubes). Hooks at each web belt allowed operators to make the connections without having to handle heavy lifting shackles (they are suspended from the crane and the web belts are light enough for a person to handle). The arrangement works well and was load tested to 150% (145 ton-US) with no problems. Chaps had to be added to the web belts to prevent fiber damage at the hooks. <br>
