Good Day to all!,

I would like to request for clarification regarding the welder qualification (position) for API 650 Tank Nozzles

If a welder tested using a plate coupon in 2G & 3G position then he is qualified to weld both groove & fillet in F,H,V position as per QW-461.9. Can he weld shell nozzles with his current qualification?

Thanks

How has the welder demonstrated their ability to place a weld in the overhead position? This would apply to the bottom of the nozzle neck to the shell. I would recommend qualifying the welder with an additional 4G or 5G position.

Why not just qualify him on pipe in the 6G? This way he is completely covered for all diameters and positions for groove and fillets.

Thank you for your reply, our subcontractor wasn't able to qualify their welders for the overhead position so I have a doubt. Now I would recommend them for the 6G position.
