What does a way mean exactly? Does it mean for each direction power flows? If so, why 3 ways? 6 ways?

It's the number of connections or taps.

3-way switch allows the incoming power to be extended in two different paths. Including Off position, three way switch thus has three positions in total.
Same can be extended to 6-way switch as well.
The 'way' doesn't have any relation to direction.

A 3-way switch is something used at low voltage and for that there's one inlet and two outlets (or vice versa at the other switch). For medium voltage dpc has it; the number of ways are the number of simple bus connections to the single bus in the device.

When one this sentence into the German to translate wanted, would one the fact exploit, that the word order and the punctuation already with the German conventions agree.
