Is Ground counterpoise term used for Ground loop OR Ground ring provided around the perimeter of a structure to be protected from lightning strikes Provided with Air Terminals connected together with bare lightning conductor through which minimum 2 down conductors are run individually to a 3/4" X 10 Ft ground rods or a 4/0 bare ground loop (also called counter poise?) NFPA 780 Chapter 7 refers to Lightning Protection of Structures with Flammable vapors, gases and liquid. Can anybody point me to NFPA or UL lightning protection code reference that defines when one can provide only ground rods for lightning protection or when a ground loop of 4/0 bare copper wires must be provided along the perimeter of protected structure? I have provided a DoD fuel standard drawing which shows this ground loop conductor.
