What is the best way to dimension the depth of a cutout or slot?

I need to know the best way to dimension the depth of a cutout or slot. I have square tubing with a slot cut thru all and I am not sure where the best place to add the depth.

If it's "thru" or "thru all", a note should suffice.

For blind slots I prefer a partial section view.
