What is the difference between stayed and unstayed dished heads ? (ASME)

Well,

"Stayed" FLAT heads are sometimes encountered in fire tube boilers and certain large diameter, low pressure vessels.

Unstayed dished heads are perhaps 99.99% of all installations..

"Stayed" dished heads are only rarely encountered by the investigating authorities at the site of the explosion...

My opinion only

In over 50 years I have never seen a stayed dished head. Even when there are rules does not mean it should be built.

gh61, trying to help here. You do know what a "stay" is, right?

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
