Hi to all grinding people
I need help on selecting a 12"x2"x5" surface grinding wheel to rough grind heat treated d2 tool steel (60/62 rc) that is 4.0 dia. x 1 3/4 thick with 1.500 i. d.
We have a fine grit cbn wheel that we use rough and finish grind to get a #16 finish put it takes to long to do it this way.
This is done on a cnc surface grinder.
thanks to all

Typically you would use a ceramic aluminum oxide around 54/60 grit in an f or g grade open (12-15) structure for rough grinding this material

Have you tried a Norton SG wheel? They work very well on hard parts and last much longer than aluminum oxide wheels.
