What's in those computers using Inventor? 1

I just want to see what the other Inventor users are using for their PC and what the files are like. I'm having frequent crashes and error messages like 'Out of Memory' and 'Serious Error- No more memory available-Attempt to allocate 4 regions of memory failed'

I'm running an HP Vevtra with 1G of ram, and Elsia GLoria III with a 20G HD, Win2000NT on our own network using 1G network cards.

I guess I should state that our drawings are of vehicles so there are close to 4500 unique parts (we do use the design views to only open what we need, any radii smaller than 1/8 is not shown and there is next to no plastic molded parts). I figured that I would get crashes, but Autodesk claiming that it should be able to manage the files makes me wonder if they are just claiming this to make sales.

Anyways is there anyone out there that is doing something similar to what we are and running smoothly?

It sounds to me like you may need to increase your virtual memory. I am using P4 1Gb, 512Mb Ram, GEFORCE2 w/32Mb, 20Gb HD..., and other users and I too have had those problems in the past. If you increase your virtual memory, it should help. Also, If your system crashes you out of Inventor (Same with MDT), press "CTRL/ALT/DELETE", go to "Task Manager" and check your processes. Autodesk has a habit of leaving their programs in a Process loop upon error, so if you can locate the *.exe file in the Process loop and delete it, that may also help free up some space. Remember that although Inventor may be simple and really quite functional, it uses alot of CPU-age to allow for large assembly manipulation.

Virtual Mem maxed out, have the latest drivers.
Funny thing yesterday one of the guys (with a machine like mine) had his view 'go 'precise' in 7 min while anothers crashed (and he has a dual processor)

Sounds like a problem for Autodesk. Contact your distributor and have them relay info to autodesk.
As far as your drawings, go to application options and in the drawing dialog area, un-check your precise view regeneration. This will allow you to regen your views at your descretion. I have found that with any assemblies over 150 parts, the "Precise Regeneration" is at best "REEAAAL SSSSLLLLOOOO

Having the ability to make corrections and viewing the pertinent views to verify is a lot faster and safer.
