Hello!

I heard that U-PVC pipes are banned materials in some municipalitys over the world

Are there any health risks associated with U-pvc?

What are the pipe matirials we should not use for potable water distribution in small networks?

PVC has been targeted by environmental campaign groups like Greenpeace, using propaganda techniques- put "poison plastic" into Google to see what I mean. The overwhelming majority of these claims are either groundless or outdated, based on risks which no longer exist.

Despite this, the overwhelming majority of the world's water pipes are made of PVC.

Some flexible PVC contains plasticisers called phthalates, but the unplasticised PVC used to make pipes does not. The plasticisers which were of concern were in any case banned in Europe in 2005.

There are no proven health risks associated with PVC away from its manufacture. Vinyl chloride monomer can give people liver cancer, and it did, back in the 70's. For this reason it is treated with great care.

The claims made by Greenpeace and others about dioxin production in incineration plants are scaremongering based upon outdated data.

So scientifically there is nothing to worry about, but this hasn't stopped politicians in Germany, Holland and IIRC California from bowing to political pressure and placing restrictions its use as a supposedly toxic plastic..

People already start to use the lead free stablizer in the process of producing the uPVC pipes, it makes the pipes much more cleaner and safer. You can require the manufacturer to use the lead free stablizer in the production when you purchase uPVC pipes.
