I am currently working in a network with six 4KV primary feeders and one 34.5 KV feeder. These manholes have been neglected for 25 plus years. What has been interesting to find in all these manholes is some type of anode cathode device. I have never seen anything like this. Someone has run a #6 ground wire to some type of ingot. Has anyone ever seen this?

Thanks for the info.
Can there be any dangers that you know of in any old sacrifical anodes? The type we have is old an neglected. It is in some type of potting compond.
Put in around 1973.

Sounds like you need to get a cathodic protection professional to evaluate your installation.

Try looking at NACE or do a search for cathodic protection professionals in your area.

Don't believe that there are any dangers.

The anode is probably zinc.....

Zinc and magnesium are the two most common materials used as "sacrificial anodes"

Magnesium doesn't last very long, and is typically found in water heaters and other immersion type service...

My opinion only..
