The manufacturer says his AI has never asked to review a WPS. They do not have a WPS. ASME Section VIII Div 1, UW 28,2 states" When the welding is any automatic welding process performed in accordance with a Welding Procedure Specification (in compliance with Section IX as far as applicable ) procedure qualification is not required.. I understand a WPQ is not required as per UW 29.
What should be on the WPS ?
Any thoughts ?

Thanks

Please read the entire UW-28 and UW-29 section in Section VIII, Div 1. UW-28.2 specifically applies to not having to qualify a WPS related to attachment of non-load bearing parts to pressure parts. Non-load bearing applies to fins, pin studs, refractory studs, etc it has nothing to do with ERW pipe welding. So, you need to go back and review the Code section. For ERW of pipe, a WPS and PQR are required. See Section IX, QW-263 for what is required regarding a WPS essential variables.
