Request for one-on-one session to discuss my plummeting research work

Yes, essentially that’s what am doing. Specifically for bridge design. Similar to Eurocode format.

Request for one-on-one session to discuss my plummeting research work

Hi, I would like to request a meeting with a kind stranger willing to help me with my research. I am about to fail my thesis, and my supervisor is completely unhappy. I don't know why I can't grasp basic concepts. Perhaps engineering is not for me. I don't want to give up, so this is my last...

Modelling Different Flange Thicknesses welded together

hi, The reason I am modelling the full structure is because I want to determine the influence surfaces for stresses at that section point where the thickness varies. Maybe you are right, and I am approaching the problem the wrong way. I am carrying out a study of fatigue analysis of critical...

Modelling Different Flange Thicknesses welded together

Hello, My focus is mostly on the stresses at the thickness change to the utmost accuracy I can achieve using shell elements. This approach would give me slightly different results. However, thank you, SWcomposites and rb1957 for the insight. I know how to fix the issue now.

Modelling Different Flange Thicknesses welded together

Hi, Hmm, I get what you mean. But that is difficult to do. The web heights vary slightly, and they must be all connected along their overall centerlines of the total girder height of 1600mm (the girder height is the same for all the sections, but the web heights and flange thicknesses vary) to...

Modelling Different Flange Thicknesses welded together

Hello, I am creating an Abaqus model of a steel girder that is made of parts with different thicknesses for the flanges and web. I am using shell elements. The girder is 100m long and comprises of three different sections with uniform flange and web thicknesses. I used merge instances to create...

Abaqus - Mises Stress values are too high

Thank you so much. Now I completely understand the phrase "rubbish in, rubbish out" when it comes to software. I had a feeling it was something so simple that I completely missed. Thank you once again, and my apologies for using your valuable time. C

Abaqus - Mises Stress values are too high

Any luck in helping me with this problem? I have finalised my final bridge model, and the results from it are similar in exaggeration to the ones in this simple model. Any idea what is causing the stress results to be excessive, or is it my unit conversion that is the issue?

    Abaqus-Shell to Beam Element connection

Thank you. I will do that.

    Abaqus-Shell to Beam Element connection

Thank you for the insight, @FEA way. I have a follow-up question: The bolt connection of the cross frame is located towards the centre of the stiffener, but to simplify the model, I made the connection at the edge of the stiffener. Is that advisable? If I did extend the cross frame connection...

    Error in Normal - Abaqus

Hello, How do I fix this error? Normal cannot be computed in 12 elements. The nodal coordinates may be incorrect or the element aspect ratio may exceed 1000 to 1. The elements have been identified in element set ErrElemNormal. I have identified the elements in the set "ErrElemNormal" and...

    Abaqus-Shell to Beam Element connection

Hi, Sorry for the long post in advance. Yes I did try coupling constraint and I used the node at the joint of the cross frame and attached to the stiffener as the constraint control point and the surface of edge of the stiffener as the constraint region type. However i get this error...

Abaqus - Mises Stress values are too high

Hello, Yes, Sure, I can share the cae. file. Thank you. I am sorry for the typing errors. Actually that post has too many. I will do better. Chttps://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=2bd69a95-601e-40bf-9c94-c449d6dbf5e7&file=Practice_Model_09-10-23.cae

    Abaqus-Shell to Beam Element connection

Hello, How can I connect these two elements: the crossframe (truss elements) to the stiffener (shell elements). will merging instances work well in terms of results displayed? Thanks C

Abaqus - Mises Stress values are too high

[/url] I have added the assembly and the unit conversions for your reference. thanks for the help, bacause i am completely baffled. Because if my units are correct, the max displacements I am getting are 239mm which seem excessive for 1KN udl
