@david339933, it strikes me as inefficient to specify impact tested materials for a B16.11 plug for use down to -20°F. However, I don't have a better solution.
All: How economically feasible is it to get a small run of forgings made for these kind of flanges? Would you need custom forging dies? I assume you can't start with a block of forged A182 and just machine away until you're left with a WN?
OP: A design pressure four times higher than operating...
Can ASTM A53 or A106 pipe be used in accordance with CSA s16?
CSA S16 calls out for structural material to be either CSA G40.20/21 or ASTM A992. I find it hard to believe that ASTM pipe isn't used regularly for stanchion and similar applications in the oil & gas industry. Any ideas? Am I off...

Be careful if you plan on using Part 5: http://www.absa.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/IB17-012.pdf
The manufacture will need the appropriate ASME U-stamp.
I'd suggest you formulate a plan an contact ABSA to...
metengr: full disclosure, I don't deal with NBIC, but I am curious about your opinion. Based on my quick review of NBIC Part 3 Section 4, is it correct to say that a pressure test (hydrotest) of a VIII-1 vessel (that's been through a repair or alteration) is required unless the local pressure...
metengr: isn't a hydrotest standard for repairs and alterations? Volumetric examination of the welds wouldn't exempt you from a hydrotest of a new equipment, correct? Why would a volumetric examination be enough for a repair?
TGS4, I assume your post on this topic is still valid: https://becht.com/blog/performing-an-fea-in-section-viii-division-1-to-qualify-an-article-u-2-g-component and you recommend meeting all the requirements of Part 5.
When using Section VIII-2 Part 5 elastic-plastic analysis (with a load factor of b=3.5 for protection against plastic collapse; and 1.7 for protection against local failure) on a vessel (or component of a vessel) that is designed per VIII-1 (and U-2(g)), is it a generally accepted engineering...
What is the code of construction you're working with?
Per ASME Section VIII-1 paragraph U-1(e)(1)(-a):
(e) In relation to the geometry of pressure-containing parts, the scope of this Division shall include the following:
(1) where external piping; other pressure vessels including heat...
