    Picture Frame Installation in Cabin

Well I doubt aluminum and glass are flammable. Ask your DER what needs to be done.

    Lilium down the gurgler

Seems they may have a lifeline: https://lilium.com/newsroom-detail/lilium-achieves-breakthrough-in-investor-search

Combined Timber and Microlam Beam Load Sharing

The added LVL is not going to pick up the existing dead load, unless you somehow unload the existing beam. So the load sharing will only be for the live load.

    Passing of John Hart-Smith

And the author of a very prescient paper on the adverse effects of "outsourcing".

    Creating standard-looking beam diagrams

You can program Microsoft Visio to create those figures.

    Things you love/hate with mathcad

Haven't used it in a while, but this is what I recall: Pricing model stinks. Too expensive. No permanent licenses. Every new version seems to make old file versions obsolete. In some cases can't even read the old files. Every new version introduces new errors. Not easily compatible with Excel.

    Windrunner

i think they plan to be able to land/takeoff on unimproved "runways"; so those would be located in the wind farm site. its a crazy big airplane.

    Windrunner

    its not large enough.

contractor not following plans... at all

if you don't want to walk away (and that's probably the best advice) is to quote any additional work at a (quite high) hourly rate, and depending on your assessment about the chances of getting paid, require a retainer up front that you bill against.

3,000 lb new point load on existing slab

yeah, and hopefully there wasn't organic material in the garbage layer or there may be voids under the slab.

    Tension allowable NAS1204

its either the head failing before the shank, or the bolt threads failing before the shank, or the nut failing before the shank.

    Software for Material Engineers

material engineer in what industry? learn the relevant material and process specifications for your field. learn how the specifications are created. learn how materials are qualified learn how materials are tested; learn the relevant test method standards (ASTM, etc)

    PLATE ELEMENTS

Ok, pictures always help. What you want is called an “offset” for the property card. This can be defined in FEMAP. (the menus have likely changed since I last used it). However, offsets can cause all sorts of confusion with the element output. By offsetting the material relative to the nodal...

    PLATE ELEMENTS

I don't understand what you mean by this. A plate element on has one thickness.

    Plastic Beam

agree with enginerding unreinforced polypropylene will creep underload, has relatively low heat distortion temperature, and a relatively high coefficient of thermal expansion. this is why you see a lot of Trek type boards warped and deflected after a few years.

    Plastic Beam

Torchman - by "plastic" do you mean pure unreinforced plastic? or glass fiber reinforced plastic? and if glass fiber reinforced, it is continuous glass fiber or chopped discontinuous glass fiber? Strength and stiffness are highly dependent on the plastic resin, the reinforcement type, and the...

    Weld compatibility between steels

Its very complicated and yes it is related to alloy composition. Suggest you post in the Welding forum with the specific materials in question.

    Telling People No

Its a common problem in other industries also. One just has to be calm, firm, and clear with your rationale for why you are saying "no". And I have resorted to saying "I'm not compromising my reputation by putting my signature on something that is not acceptable." You can also reference...

    built up beam

well, it depends on the loading and how the beam is attached. there is nothing on either in the original post. I don't disagree with your approach KootK.

for shear flow due to torsion loading Google "multicell wing box shear flow" --> lots of links, for instance https://www.aeromech.usyd.edu.au/structures/acs1-p83.html for straight vertical shear without torsion, just use the vertical webs to react the shear.
