UCS-79 - Measured Thickness vs Specified

What SnTman said. we do it every day and head manufacture puts te ug-79 statememt on thicknes guarantee sheet

Hydrostatic Test - MAWP vs MAP

Yes, many "user" require testing at the MAP condition. We do it regularly. We re-design the vessel with a "new MAWP" which is the MAP of the lowest pressure of head, shell, or flange, making sure of the stresses incurred at hydro-pressure. This often requires a slightly larger re-pad, or...

Holding time for vessel hydro pressure test

we normally use 1 hour per inch of thickness with a 1 hour minimum. but waiting for inspectors and AI it usually runs 5-6 hours.

    Hole cut size/Nozzle Fit-up

I assumed ASME since the forum is named "ASME (mechanical) Code Issues Forum"

    Hole cut size/Nozzle Fit-up

Well, first, 2" pipe is 2.375" o.d. but it really doesn't matter. i don't remember this being addressed in code. BUT, the gaps at welds must meet your wps. Most wps do not stretch out to 7/16" weld gap.

PWHT for head or whole vessel

The code specifies that COLD formed parts with excessive elongation requires heat treatment. It does not mention that hot formed parts need heat treatment. This is why most head manufactures do a lot of hot forming.

PWHT for head or whole vessel

can the head manufacturer hot form the head?

UCS-85 and Hot Formed Dished Head

If the plate was normalized at the mill and then normalized during head forming and finally PWHT....i don't think you have to do any additional tests if the material test reports show it was normalized. but check with you A.I to make sure.

    ASME VIII Div I certification

This is so relavent in today's times. It is hard to find any experienced people in the 10yr to 30 year range. all the new engineers want to plug it in the computer and what is spits out is correct. They have no idea what to change and when to change it.

    Third Party Inspection Services

You can have internally certified level II if tested and records kept by the company level III You can have an ANST testedd level II. is one better than the other as far as the actual testing. Depends on the man behind the machine.

    Pressure Vessel Manufacturer?

probably cameron. their corporate offices are in Houston, Texas and have several manufacturing facilities. you should have a U-1A form available to see which plant manufactured the vessel.

    RT stamping on nameplate

The CODE does not require any particular amount of radiography (except in circumstances of Lethal service, some materials, thickness, etc) It does however, require that the stamping reflects the the design of vessel. It does not disallow extra NDE. Somewhere in the calculations and/or drawings...

    MDMT PV Elite

Apparently, your design is not adequate for the required MDMT. There are several things you can do. I am assumining it is a carbon steel vessel and you don't give the materials you selected. You can add normalization to the materials. You can add PWHT. If the problem is self reinforced nozzles...

Does anyone know of domestic usa su

Does anyone know of domestic usa suppliers of pipe and butt weld fittings that have the HF designation stamped on it? I hate to have to buy sa-106-b pipe with the proper chemicals, normalize it, rerun physicals in normalized condition. then do the same and have it formed for elbows.

    Jacket Hydrotest Pressure

We design our inner shells with external pressure induced by the jacket. we test jacket at 1.3 X MAWP jacket. we have never had the problem you are encountering with failure.

    Davit Operation

generally speaking....a davit eyebolt (w/ unc threads) is not designe to lift the blind. Threads are for slight adjustments to align the bolt holes. if you are looking to raise a 2300# blind 4", I would look at an oversized eyebolt with acme thread and handles welded on the nut. the...

    Design for MAWP or MAP

the pressure, whether map or mawp is at the top of vessel. the code requires that you design for all known loads. static head is a load on nozzles, especially those low in a liquid vessel.
