Hi all,
I was tasked to design a fuel gas (Natgas)supply line to a generator. I was reading some guidelines on fuel gas installations to generators set, however there is a detail these guidelines did not provide. This detail has to do with a line (sensing line) that goes from the regulator's...
Hi all,
I'm a new chemical engineer.
I feel (and I have seen) that many of the chemical engineering textbooks calculations (equipment sizing, cost calcs, etc.) I saw in college are not aligned with real life ( or are not aligned to what is actually done in an engineering firm).
I want to...
Hi all,
I've got many years (10+) of experience both as plant operator (outside operator) and as Control Room (Console/board Operator). I acquired this experience before I went to college for the Chemical Engineering degree that I hold now. My question is, does anyone know if there is an...
Hi all,
I'm working in a project to install a hydrogenation reactor. This reactor will need hydrogen supply on regular basis. We are thinking to have hydrogen (gas) stored somewhere in the plant (cylinder banks or tube trailers), periodically delivered by tracks. we have identified some NFPA (...
Hi all,
Does anyone knows if there is a good book for hydraulic resistances? (for components such as strainers, expansion joints, etc.)
I found one book on Amazon: Handbook of Hydraulic Resistance by Idelchik I.E. (pictures attached). There are few reviews and I'm not sure how good/bad the...
Hi all,
I remember have seen/red that 1 mg/L = 1 ppm but I'm not sure that this is true for all cases. For example, there are salts that are completely soluble in water (NaCl), and other that are partially soluble or not soluble at all in water (AgCl, PbBr2). We also have the cases of...
Hi all,
Does anyone know if there is a code/regulation/standard that gives directions/instruction on how to design a lift station (sewer) to handle waters from eye wash stations, deluge systems, and waters potentially with some hydrocarbons in it. The plan is to place an oil-water separator...
Hi all,
Does anyone knows if there is any reliable external (clamp on)flow meter, capable of measuring gas and liquid flows and temperature? I've seen a couple of those on the internet, but was wondering at what extent they are reliable. Also, in case of insulated piping, can that device still...
For the Fibercast pipe schedule, I've looked on the internet. Nothing specific shows up.
For the Expansion Joint pressure loss coefficient, I believe it can be found in the manufacturer's cutsheet, but since I'm designing a new system I'd like to know at least the typical values.
Hi all,
1-Can someone please tell what would be the schedule for a 6" fibercast pipe? the specification of the pipe is: Fibercast RB-2530
2- What would be the loss coefficient (K value) of an expansion joint?
Please, if possible reply with references.
Thank you.

Thanks Latexman for the input, I appreciate.
The Obturator, this goes into the Darcy's formula for compressible flow, for sub-sonic flow conditions. You then get that flow for sizing. (of course it depends on case by case... you don't always need this info).
Hi all,
I'm working on some PSV's contingency calcs for a client. At some point I had the need to work with Net Expansion Factor for compressible flow (see attached picture). Can someone please tell how to handle/approach when we have K values outside the specified range, for example lower then...
Thank you all for taking the time to reply to my question. LittleInch thanks for the image you posted, it really helped me to differentiate between the two.
