Autodesk has them beat with forcing their entire software offering to "Named User" subscription, but I think Dassault is working that way too with the 3D Experience push.
FYI, if you need a good AutoCAD like clone that seem to outperforms AutoCAD in many areas, I have found BricsCAD to be an...
Does SolidWorks still include a license for DraftSight? That was the AutoCAD clone they supplied to close the gap with DWG files. Wasn't great for large DWG's like pant layouts, but worked well for stuff like you are talking about.

If you did have maintenance and received SE 2020, then you were e-mailed a license for it when it was released. If you had it installed and were using it before uninstalling it, then you had the license. Find the e-mail with the license or find it in the storage location you saved it to for...
Thanks for noticing John. Got it fixed.

Sorry for the late reply... SE ships with a Data Preparation utility that can help identify and fix broken links as well as populate file properties.

If you have the "Free 2D Drafting" license of Solid Edge, then the 3Dconnexion add-in will not work as the Solid Edge API it needs to interface with is not active in that license. You would need to be using a paid license to get the active API.

And files created in student versions opened in the commercial version will also exhibit same behavior.

I believe that many releases ago these saved defaults where stored in the files, but now they are stored in the custom.xml file and they cannot be stored in the template.
The intent of the Custom.xml file is that it can be stored on a network share and referenced by all users by changing the...

What KENAT is referring to is when an assembly had two parts that would not form a single solid because a "zero thickness non-manifold" solid would result, the Insert Part Copy would fail. Since then, things have changed as of ST5 and part files now support multi-body so that failure no longer...
Not that I'm aware of. I believe it is hard coded that way.

That's too bad your not on maintenance anymore. ST7 is awesome. Also, not sure if you are aware, but the old forums that were for maintenance paying customers are no more. The new Community site doesn't require you to be on maintenance to participate.

Also, you can insert an Assembly into a Part file by using Insert Part Copy.

If the SE models are surfaces, you may still see them in SE but they will not save out using the default STEP settings. You would need to change the options to include surfaces.

There is a big difference between "Move Components" (and "Steering Wheel" move) and "Drag Components".
Move Components will make the move and violate any constraints to accomplish this. It is an assembly build tool used to construct the assembly. The Steering Wheel move also does this, but I...
I have not used this a lot, and when I did, it seemed that it was difficult to get what I wanted. Hope you get a useful answer to this as I would be interested in hearing it too. You may also try asking this on the Solid Edge Community site...

You will have to look in Help for the specific area where you are interested in the icons. For instance here is the ST7 Help page for Assembly Pathfinder.

There are several sources for API/programming help with Solid Edge.
The main one is the Solid Edge Developer Community here that contains a BLOG, Discussion Group, and Knowledge Base: http://community.plm.automation.siemens.com/t5/Solid-Edge-Developer-Community/ct-p/SolidEdgeDeveloperCommunity...
