Solidworks 2005 "breaks" so often for so many reasons, and with so many service packs us beta testers must apply, it is logical that a clean/registry wipe install of 0.0 to the latest service pack will leave much less room for unknowns than applying/rolling back subsequent service packs.

Gentlemen,
Many companies have problems keeping MS Office and programs like Solidworks in sync (compatible releases) so Excel is not always an option.
2D drawing packages should be able to generate text that can be fixed and easily formatted, for tabulations etc that have absolutely no physical...
There are no simple "text" table features in Solidworks (why?).
One workaround:
- Create a new blank drawing
- Insert a revision table
- Save this table as a template
- Close the new drawing you just created (needn't save it)
- Insert the new rev table into any drawing
- Modify this table to...
Replace the "temp" directory in
c:\documents & settings\(login name)\local settings\"temp"
VBA and Dwgeditor (among other things) need this directory structure to work properly.
O U C H!
I deserved that, fair enough.
Sorry Scott, I should have taken a few deep breaths before my post, which was both personal and dishonourable, and I apologize for that. Your tips have helped me in the past and I appreciate it, really.
At the time of posting, we had similar crashes in...
I can't believe sbaugh's statement that Solidworks is stable and fast!!!
What kind of agenda is this guy pushing, and why?
Read the Solidworks forum Scott. read all the other forums. Try using the software for practical applications.
Solidworks 2005 is NOT STABLE, NOT FAST.
The weld symbols dialog appears to be modeless now (I don't think it was in 2004). This allows interaction with the graphics area while the dialog is active, which can cause problems on sensitive systems.
Try setting your BIOS option (if available) to "failsafe settings" or similar. There is a slight decrease in all round performance, but it definitely stabilises the system.
Video drivers are one issue, but motherboard compatability is also important and there are just too many for Solidworks to...
SW 2005 appears to be VERY memory intensive and VERY particular about the hardware you have.
Unless you have a solid machine with the absolutely correct video card and 2+ GB RAM, only use 2005 for testing.
It would be a safe bet that the extra memory requirements are sue to the extra...
SW 2004 has been out for a year, and Dassault have not ONCE acknowledged the BOM issues raised in their own forum.
Fundamental issues like basic formatting should NEVER EVER get to production releases. If they do then they should be fixed without delay once discovered.
I certainly hope the...
