Exactly. My design pressure is around 20psi, and actual operating might be less than that.
Is there an option to hydrotest header in undrilled condition, and later drill on site.
If some welding is needed at site, can it be done at site without PWHT & hydro?
Thanks again!
Though it is open, wouldnt it be subjected to gas pressure during operation.
Again, in B31.3 when code says about hydrotest has to be carried out to check tightness - whether it is for checking leakage of joints or integrity of the wall ?
I have a short section of piping that needs to connect two flanged valves.
Because of space constraints, I am planning to weld two stub ends together..
Is that allowed per ASME B31.3?

Thank you @LittleInch for your response.
I am actually designing the section with all holes.
Is it possible to get an exception to hydrotest, as the section is open to atmosphere as per 345.1.d ?
Hi all,
I am designing a gas header for a ground flare. Applicable code of design is B31.3 & hydrotest will need to be conducted.
Is there an option in B31.3 to hydrotest the header in undrilled condition and later after hydrotest drill the distribution holes?
Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
I am designing a gas distribution header, for a flare, with numerous holes connected to burners.
System operates around 20psi. Can i take exception to hydrotest under B31.3 - 345.1 (d) as system is open to atmosphere.
There are valves upstream to isolate the burners.

Thanks again mk3223 & akpipelineengr for your comments.
Considering the recommendation for a gasket by the valve supplier, I'm leaning towards a full face gasket on expansion joint end and a ring gasket on the other. Any concerns or alternative suggestions on this approach?
Thanks @akpipelineengr. The valve sits inside the bolt circle of the flange. The only issue here is that, the valve is flat face & has a raised face flange connection on one end & flat face expansion jt on the other end.
Hey everyone,
Need some advice on gasket dimensions for a 12" wafer-style butterfly valve connecting to a 12" B16.5 flat face flange. It's for an air line from a 10psi blower. Any insights on the ideal dimensions? Also, what adjustments are needed if I switch to an RF flange?
Similarly, facing...
Hi
I am connecting a 12" wafer check valve with a 12" ANSI 150 RF flange.
I need to use a custom gasket between these. How do I determine the dimensions of the gasket?
Hi all,
I am constructing a fuel gas line (25psi) and confused with pressure testing of pipe.
Can I do shop hydrotest instead of pressure testing and assemble the parts at site?
NFPA 54 Cl 8.1.2 (given below) doesn't mention hydrotest.
"Test Medium. The test medium shall be air, nitrogen...
Thanks @PhamENG & @MotorCity.. I meant pipes for transporting liquid. I need to run a piping from Customer end to my equipment. Customer says his piping is A36.
Can I use SA106GrB pipe? Are they similar in chemical composition?
Hi
What care to be taken while installing secondary steam separator (vane type inside box) in SG?
Whether arc strike / spatter allowed on vane elements?
What are the possible damages in operation ? Any literature would immensely help.
Thanks in advance
