Thanks all for the quick response.
In my case, I am looking for possible impeller re-sizing to reduce the pressure (dead head).
So using the same motor.
Current pressure is sufficient but quite near to the limit of a bursting disk after a vessel.
(Disk burst on rare occasions but did occur)...
Hi All
A bit rusty with pump stuff. Any rotating equipment guru out there if can help me I appreciate it.
I am looking at centrifugal pump curve (Dead head at 85m)
Based on water.
However, the system I am looking at has slurry. SG at 1.25.
I remember the head don't change, pressure do. (p =...
Hi Gent
A bit of challenge.
The Project team is considering to install a booster pump to compensate for the elevated location of the collecting dam for slurry. One option is relocate at the current pumping station. Another option is to install almost 1/2 way.
I guess there are pros and cons for...
I've seen similar design at an oil refinery. I meant the a couple of holes bigger than the rest. It was awhile back and could not find it in any specific standards. In the end, it was the manufacturer design to facilitate installation for a big flange. Worst, it used JIS Standard for main flange...
Hi All
Tank is 5m diameter.
Have not gone to the site to have a look at the nameplate.
From GA drawing, Internal Pressure = 8" WG
and Design = Full of slurry (SG 1.25 x 8" WG.
(Material is 316).
The "Seal Pot" they call it, is a pressure vessel to AS1210. (The location is in...
Hi All
I am checking the requirement if there is a need for Pressure/vacuum relief valve on a slurry tank.
API650 design check, internal pressure was calculated at 8.1kPa. I believe API650 allow for up to 6.9kPa.
However, there is tank overflow to a seal pot downstream (built to AS1210),
which...
Thanks all.
When I was working for BP, they specifically had the procedure to "air gap" redundant equipment.
So too when I was working at remote processing plants.
Just that there was never any reference to any legislation or standard the requirement for this, though it is logical.
Did a bit...
Just a general query. The vessel in this case would probably be old and not in the condition to be in service.
Won't be doing anything in the short term.
Hi All
Have an old redundant and decommissioned air receiver on-site.
Apart from the de-registration process, we normally disconnect any pipework connections to the vessel to ensure no possibility of leak product into it.
Seems to be the best practise at many places I had work. But I never find...
Hi All
Thanks for all the great feedback.
It was the site team that provided me with the vendor quote.
They could not find the spec of the current pump.
Recently, I found the original pump data sheet.
Agree with what were written by everyone.
I've gone back to the supplier to request for a...
I am attaching the Proposed pump curve. Can't find pump the current pump curve. Attached also is the current pump data against the proposed.
FYI, it is just a sump pump. Being it is not my speciality, just want to get the best option.
Hi ALL
Thanks for the feedback.
The sump pumps pump to a collecting pipe which send the water to the open catchment pond.
There is check valve just before entering the collecting pipe.
These are old pumps.
The current pump has a head of 20m (rotating at 1460 rpm, while the new one is 50m...
Hi All
Need a a bit of help. Not my speciality in pump.
Has an old sump pump, pumping water on a 2" pipe to a header - check valve before entry to the 8" header (about 5 meter high). Pump is running at 1460rpm. Pump head is 20m.
Looking to buy a spare and the only one proposed/available by...
Hi All
I just can't remember the standard for this. Done once before but now can't remember the info in ASME Sec VIII, I think.
I need to do a temporary cut out at the (acid) tower for access during shutdown.
Possibly size of about 1500 x 1000mm.
I just need to size the temporary stiffener for...
HI DVWE
Yes it has to be welded. Adhesive bonding won't be strong enough for this application.
The plate is to act as dust shield.
I wonder if a full weld but staggered heat input will mitigate this warping.
Or any other option apart from stitch welding?
HI All
Need your opinion. I am no welding expert.
I am trying to weld a small shield plate (3mm) (non-structural) to a frame.
However, I am concern with the potential warping of the thin plate.
Thinking of doing stitch welding to mitigate this (as opposed to full perimeter weld), but I am...
